The Pittsfield Suns (8-4) struggled to keep pace with the offense of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (7-5-0), being defeated 11-5.
The Dirt Dawgs bit first in the first with a two run shot by Kyle Cala.
The Suns returned fire in the third with back-to-back jacks with a two-run homer by Brett Morrison, then a solo by Kyle Beaulieu.
The Dirt Dawgs took back the lead in the fourth with an RBI single by Kyle Pangallo and a wild pitch scoring Bradley Wood.
With the help of a two run home run by Scott Holzwasser, the Suns retook the lead in the fifth.
But that would be all for the Suns offense. The Dirt Dawgs piled on runs. They scored a run in the sixth, four in the seventh, and two in the eighth. They defeated the Suns 11-5
Brock Riley (1-0) got the win. Jake Rockefeller (0-1) was given the loss.
The Elser Animal Control Pest Player of the Game went to Kyle Beaulieu, who went 2-3 with a homer and a walk.
The Pittsfield Suns will continue the home and home today against the Dirt Dawgs. It is Freedom Friday, where the Suns will honor American Veterans. Pittsfield's Drew Marino will take the mound against Wachusett's Edward Baram. Gates open at 6 PM and first pitch is slated for 7 PM.
